What is the Spacetalk Family App?

Spacetalk Family is an innovative cross platform family tracking and location sharing app designed to keep families connected and give them peace of mind.

When you pair the Spacetalk Family app with the Spacetalk app, you can:

  • Find multiple connected family members including Spacetalk Watch users, all at once.
  • Track primary account holder with their permission.
  • Access 30-day location history for all Spacetalk Family app and Spacetalk Watch users.
  • Navigate directly to family members, using shortest route, anytime.

Getting Started

Who should download the Spacetalk Family app?

The Spacetalk Family app should be downloaded onto your child's smartphone. On your own phone, you will need to download the Spacetalk app to pair with your child's Family app.

How can the Spacetalk Family app be downloaded?

The Family app is available for download from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store. Other platforms are currently not supported. Search for Spacetalk Family App in either store.

How do I pair the Spacetalk Family app to the Spacetalk app?

On the parent's phone, open the Spacetalk app and create an account or log in. Press Home, "Add Device" and select Family App. Follow the prompts to add the family member who will be using the Spacetalk Family app.

On the child's phone, open the Spacetalk Family app and select "Tap to Pair". This will display a QR code. Use the Spacetalk app on the parent's phone to scan the QR code, then follow the steps to complete pairing.

Why can't I pair my Spacetalk apps?

In order to pair, you will need to ensure that the parent's phone has installed the "Spacetalk" app and the app is updated to version 5.3.0 or higher on iOS and 5.6.5 or higher on Andriod. The child's phone will need to have installed the "Spacetalk Family" app. Both phones will need to have a mobile network connection.

Locations

How does the Spacetalk app get location updates from the Spacetalk Family app?

As long as the child's phone is turned on and connected to a mobile network, Spacetalk Family app can send location updates to the parent's Spacetalk app.

When location services are enabled for Spacetalk Family app on the child's phone, the Spacetalk Family app will use the phone's native location services to obtain a location and send it to the Spacetalk app on the parent's phone. By default it will send an automatic location update every 15 minutes. This location update interval can be adjusted in the Spacetalk app.

As long as the child's phone is turned on and connected to the mobile network, the parent will be able to receive an up-to-date location by using the Locate Me feature. In the Spacetalk app on the map screen, tap on the Spacetalk Family app profile to reveal the pop up menu. Then tap 'Locate Me' and the Spacetalk app will start scanning for your child's current location.

In addition to this, the Spacetalk Family app user can also send a live up-to-date location through to the parent's Spacetalk app by navigating to the map, tapping on their profile, then 'Send my location' which will send their current location to the Spacetalk app.

 

Can the Spacetalk Family app get location updates from the Spacetalk app?

Parents using the Spacetalk app can share their location with the Spacetalk Family App user. This is an optional toggle which can be disabled through the Settings menu of the Spacetalk app.

When the location sharing option is toggled to on, the Spacetalk app will automatically send location updates to the Spacetalk Family app every 15 minutes. Please note: Spacetalk app can only send a location through to the Spacetalk Family App if the phone is turned on and connected to a mobile network.

Why won't the Spacetalk Family app update location in the Spacetalk app or vice versa?

In order to successfully update location, the Spacetalk app and Spacetalk Family app need to have location services set to "Always Allow" in the phone settings. This can usually be found in the "Permissions" section of the phone settings. The phones that the apps are installed on will need to be turned on and have a mobile network connection.

Safe Zones

What are Safe Zones?

Safe Zones are geo areas that are setup in the Spacetalk app. When the Spacetalk Family app user arrives and leaves these pre-programmed zones, an optional notification will be sent to the Spacetalk app.

How do I set up Safe Zones?

To set up a new safe zone, in the Spacetalk app, tap on the 'Safe Zones' icon on the map screen. Tap the purple '+' button and enter the address of the desired location. Once the Safe Zone has been created you will need to setup Safe Zone alerts. Note that for Safe Zones to work you must also enable automatic location updates.

How do I receive notifications when the watch user has entered or left a safe zone?

To set up alerts for Safe Zones, in the Spacetalk app, tap on the 'Safe Zones' icon on the map screen. Tap on an existing Safe Zone and then tap on Manage Alerts. Multiple safe zone notifications can be configured and these can be customised to suit particular days.

Chat

What is Chat?

With Spacetalk Family App and the Spacetalk app, you can create a chat group to send messages to friends and family who are also using the Spacetalk app and devices. You can create one-to-one private chats, or chat groups.

How do I add someone as a Chat contact on my Spacetalk app?

In the Spacetalk app tap the 'Chat' symbol in the bottom right corner of the screen. Tap the purple New Message symbol. From here you will be able to invite a contact through email or by entering the persons Spacetalk ID.

How do I add someone as a Chat contact on my Spacetalk Family App?

You will first need to add the contact to Chat in the Spacetalk app.

Once this has been completed, tap on the Spacetalk Family app profile then tap settings. Under 'Chat Contacts', tap on the plus symbol then select the contact you wish to add to your Spacetalk Family app profile.

Do the Chat contacts and phone contacts sync?

No. The Chat contacts and Phone contacts are a different set of contacts and need to be setup independently.

Shared Users

How do I share my Spacetalk Family App with other trusted people?

It is only possible for a Spacetalk Family app profile to be paired to one primary account. However, it is possible to share access to the user with multiple trusted users.

To share a Family App profile, please follow these steps:

Primary Account Holder
1. In the Spacetalk app, navigate to the home screen, tap on the profile you wish to share.
2. Scroll down under General to ‘Device Sharing’ then tap the purple ‘Share Device’ button.
3. Enter the email address of the person you wish to share the profile with.

Secondary Account Holder
1. Use the link in the invitation to download the Spacetalk app.
2. Open the app and create a new Spacetalk account. (Note: when creating your new Spacetalk app account, you must use the same email address the invitation has been sent to)
3. Once you have created a Spacetalk account and are logged in, tap on the 'Home' button. The request should appear under 'My Devices'
4. Tap on the request and it will allow you to Accept or Deny. Once accepted you will have shared access to that Spacetalk.

In the Spacetalk app, tap on the Spacetalk Family app profile to revel the pop up menu. Tap on 'Settings' then 'Device Sharing'. You can manage permissions and remove shared access to the Family app users profile from this menu.

How do I stop sharing?

In the Spacetalk app, tap on the Spacetalk Family app profile to revel the pop up menu. Tap on 'Settings' then 'Device Sharing'. You can remove shared access to a particular Spacetalk Family App profile watch from this menu.

Subscription

Does Spacetalk Family App require a subscription?

Spacetalk Family app is free of charge until March 1 2024. Subscription fees will apply from March 1 2024 and are billed through your Apple Store or Google Play account.

Reset

How can the Spacetalk Family app be reset?

To reset the Spacetalk Family app, simply uninstall and reinstall the app on the child's phone.
